Possible Hyperparathyroidism and pregnant! HELP!!

Right before I became pregnant, my endocronologist (I've been diagnosed with Hashimotos and am currently on Synthroid 50 mcg) sent me to a surgeon to get a biopsy of a lump on my thyroid. Turns out, according to the surgeon, the tumors (there were 2) where on the parathyroid instead. He did not perform a biopsy and instead had me get blood work to check my PTH (which came back high) and my calcium (which cameback normal). The next step was for me to get a nuclear scan, however, that's the week I found out I was pregnant and pretty much the thyroid/parathyroid issue was put on the back burner (I'm 36 and therefore "high risk" so there where bigger fish to fry ie- amnio). And I wasn't too concerned since my Calcium had come back normal. Fast forward to now. I am on my 17th week, and I went to see the surgeon again. This is the first time he has had a case like this (his words). He performed another ultrasound and the tumors haven't changed. The next step is for me to get a Serum Ca + intact PTH and an Ionized Ca (arterial draw). Apparently he is concerned that my Calcium might have changed (higher?) in the last 17 weeks. After the blood work he will do a biopsy to rule out cancer. My question is as follows: Now that I have read through www.parathyroid.com , it has become crystal clear how important it is that I deal with this NOW, and if my calcium comes back high there is no question I'll be making an appointment with Dr. Norman ASAP. That being said, if my Calcium comes back "normal" do I still need to get the parathyroid surgery now? or can it wait after labor? One more thing: as part of this diagnosis process, should I request my surgen order a 24 hr urine calcium test?

The parathyroid site is excellent. A lot of info on the "Parathyroid Disease (Hyperparathyroidism) During Pregnancy" page. To find this page, click on table of contents on the side. The article is about 3/4 of the way down.  Alternatively, just google "Parathyroid Disease (Hyperparathyroidism) During Pregnancy"
