yes they give you everything you need..donation enevolopes and everything brochures all the info...
I just had a "duh" moment. I neglected to mention that I work for the state health department. I will check with our chronic disease folks to see if they have anything in the works. You also might think about contacting your state or local health departments to see if they have anything going. I will still contact the news media and will provide the link to the cancer website (End Rope ~ thanks for the idea). I have found that most of them have places on their website for providing them with tips and comments.
If you go to the thyroid cancer website they will send you all the info need to spread the word out in Sept..I got my package the other day.
Thanks, found it. I think JoBa has a great idea about the news segments. They usually focus briefly on one issue and so if we could agree on some consolidated facts that are most important that would help. It is easy for people to get overwhelmed by all the facts, and then lose interest and worse yet, not learn anything to take away with them. Positive facts about early detection, and the success rate of proper care at the beginning, as well as the need to have ongoing check-ups helps people not fall thru the cracks, so to speak and have un--necessary, on-going problems. Also it seems in all our postings, we would need to briefly be honest about how far reaching the physical and emotional symptoms are, and how real they are and valid. Practical issues like child care during inpatient treatment is helpful for people to know. After all, this is a cancer that effects the entire family. Just some thoughts. Not sure how early one would have to notify them in order for it to be ready and accurate, Do you know? Thanks
Hope this brought it back to top long enough for you to find it. =)
that is awsome I WISH there was something or someone close to me willing to do it. Well I will but I dont know enough about all this yet. I do know that my pharmacist at Wal Greens had her thyroid out due to ThyCa. I just dont know enough about levels and I keep getting told that my symptoms are NOT thyroid related so I am stilll alittle in limbo.

I think it's a great idea. Many local tv stations (and newspapers) have health segments and it's easy enough to call or e-mail them to make them aware that September is thyroid cancer awareness month so that they can publicize it. Thyroid cancer is actually increasing in frequency, possibly due to increased awareness and testing (it is frequently found as an "incidentaloma", which was what mine was.) Also, because so many people develop nodules, it is something that many people may need to deal with. Because it is quite treatable, there would be a huge benefit of educating the public.
I had to send an e-mail out to people at work to let them know what was going on and I have heard from a number of people who are on synthroid for Hashi, Graves etc or who have had or know someone who has had thyroid cancer. I was frankly amazed. A number of people who knew nothing about thyca asked me what my symptoms were (none) and how I found out about the nodule.
So, I will certainly contact my local media to alert them to this. They may or may not do anything, but at least I will have tried. I guess it's fitting that my surgery is in September.
