Hypothyroidism and hair loss

I had a left lobectomy 10 weeks ago and became hypothyroid a week later. My hair was coming out in clumps every time I washed or brushed it. It was also thinning like crazy. I started taking 1000 mg of spirulina a few days ago and my hair has stopped falling out. I can also see new regrowth already. I'm still hypo according to my labs and Im taking a low dose of Armour, which hasn't brought my numbers into range yet.. My eyebrows are growing too. I just wanted to share this with anyone who is struggling with hair loss and thinning. There's hope!

After I've gone through a 'hair loss' period before meds adjustment, I'll wake one day and my hair will be noticeably softer with more oil - for me it happens before the meds show on the blood tests as getting in the normal range..... just saying.. you might find it is okay without the spirulina after all?

With just the Armour, my hair was still dry and was breaking/thinning like crazy. After I started spirulina, my hair was softer and wasn't breaking off as easily. I have also noticed regrowth where it was once just scalp. I am only on 45mg of Armour and just had labs done last week, which are still out of range, so I know it's not the Armour stopping the hair loss. My very low blood pressure has also returned to normal. I am not suggesting anyone treat hypothyroidism with supplements. Definitely do research before starting any supplement. Spirulina is working for me and it may also work for others.

What is the Spirulina brand you are using?

Hair loss is a common symptom of hypothyroidism.  Sometimes, it's one of the first symptoms to go away when starting med, sometimes, it's the last.  I'd guess that it's the Armour that has stopped the hair loss.

BTW - I've read that spirulina should not be used with thyroid medication.
