Thyroid Association thinking of folding in Aus!

I just thought the forum would like to hear of this informative little piece of news . I sent a cheque to join the 'Thyroid Australia' group. It is a big organisation that helps online and also sends out information and helps match you with similar people in your area. I just got the paper work today, with my cheque and a nice pile of papers to read and a letter. The letter said, That due to the large numbers of volunteers who help run the thyroid organisation leaving, they can no longer accept new memberships They gave me a free member number and password which I can use to access information on their website, but can't go to meetings etc.
HOW TOTALLY TRAGIC!!! I didn't even get my little butterfly badge to wear with pride! How sad to see that a very common illness is yet again swept aside by lack of funds! (Non-government funded so volunteers have to help box up letters and do the paperwork etc!)  I live too far away to help them but by golly I want to!
The sooner awareness is made of our conditions then the sooner people will be treated and supported.
I am very peeved! ......pant...pant.....pant....Ok calming the breath down now.....sigh.....now what can I do about it?
Do you Americans have good support groups you know of or are a part of? Not a forum like our wonderful one, but one based in your state or city? I would love to know so that I can kick some bot-bots over here to get up and running!
Thanks!

Non profit organizations are folding all over the world - even in the US. I believe a while back I read the thyroid association here too was folding. I remember I posted an awareness in a question when I heard.
