Thyroid and a1c

I scored a 6.1 a1c on my annual exam and it says predisbetes and my doc wants me to make some changes and retest.

I read online that untreated hypothyroidism affects a1c readings. Mine is treated and within reference.

Anyone know if this could be hue to thyroid? I have had this a1c on labs for years but now it is starting to worry me.

I have found info suggesting that hypothyroidism can lead to prediabetes..  Have you been diagnosed as hypothyroid?

Assuming that the test  result was for TSH, were you also tested for the actual thyroid hormones, Free T4 and Free T3?  If so, please post results and reference ranges shown on the lab report.

TSH is a pituitary hormone that has only a weak correlation with thyroid hormone.  The most important indicator of possible hypothyroidism is having multiple symptoms that are typical of hypothyroidism.   Please review the following lit and tell us which, if any, you have.

Fatigue
Increased sensitivity to cold
Constipation (If you take laxatives you have this)
Dry skin  (If you use skin creme you have this)
Weight gain/difficulty losing weight
Puffy face
Hoarseness
Muscle weakness
Elevated blood cholesterol level
Muscle aches, tenderness and stiffness
Pain, stiffness or swelling in your joints
Heavier than normal or irregular menstrual periods
Thinning hair
Slowed heart rate
Depression
Impaired memory
Enlarged thyroid gland (goiter)

Hypothyroid patients are also frequently deficient in Vitamin D, B12 and ferritin.  If tested for those, please post those results also.

I meant a1c which is a test for prediabetes and if thyroid illness skews the a1c blood test.
