Thyroid ultrasound
Hello,
Having strange symptoms. This was my ultrasound rpt reading and wondering if someone can help. I am seeing an ENT in a few days. Also is seeing an ENT normal - I thought an endocronologist would see me??
FINDINGS:
The right thyroid lobe measures 4.8 cm x 1.4 cm x 1.6 cm. There is an
approximately 6.6 cm ovoid slightly hypoechoic nodule with hypoechoic peripheral
rim. This nodule demonstrates increased color flow. This is located in the
lateral mid to lower aspect of the right thyroid lobe. Slightly more medially
and inferiorly is a 6.5 mm x 3.1 mm x 2.7 mm ovoid predominately iso to slightly
hyperechoic nodule with internal anechogenicity.
Normal color flow to the right thyroid lobe noted.
The left thyroid lobe measures 3.8 cm x 1.7 cm x 1.6 cm. Heterogeneous 2.1 cm x
1.4 cm x 1.3 cm mass in the superior left thyroid lobe. There is suggestion of
internal calcifications associated with a thyroid nodule. Increased color flow
also identified. Normal color flow to the remainder of the thyroid.
The thyroid isthmus measures 4.3 mm in maximum diameter. No focal masses,
cysts, or calcifications are noted. Normal color flow identified.
IMPRESSION:
1. 2.1 cm heterogeneous solid nodule in the superior left thyroid lobe with
associated increased color flow and suggestion of calcifications. Further
evaluation with a thyroid FNA is recommended.
2. Smaller thyroid nodules in the right thyroid lobe, as described above.

The nodules require FNA biopsy if they larger then 1 cm and have increased blood flow and calcification.
such nodule has about 25 % chance of malignancy; especially when microcalcification is present

Thank you very much. I was scheduled later this week for a FNA. Pretty nervous. The doctor said it did sound like it could be malignent, but biopsy would need to confirm.
