Voice hoarseness

Had my TT on Tuesday. Not very sore, but get short of breath with talking and voice is just a whisper.
My questions is, should I use my voice to make it stronger or rest it?

Thanks for the input. I am hoping that the shortness of breath improves the fastest...I try to stay calm, but it is a bit unnerving.
Going to try and get some sleep.
You all take care and sweet dreams.

I had a paralyzed vocal chord after my TT and couldn't speak above a whisper for 6 weeks.  Talking didn't make any difference. It will likely come around on its own.

Are you able to swallow liquids without a problem?  The voice issue combined with the shortness of breath makes me think that you may have some nerve trauma.  I had a combination of what you have, plus couldn't swallow liquids without choking.  If it continues, you may want to ask your doctor to send you to an ear, nose and throat doctor.  They can look at your vocal cords to see if they're moving properly.

I was told that it would neither hurt nor help to rest my voice during that time.

Good luck and keep us posted.

The hoarseness is probably from the trach tube they used to help you breath.  Best thing to do is rest your voice.  I had people calling me the day after my PT and I just made it worse by using my voice.  Sherbet will soothe it; it certainly helped me.  Hoarseness was gone in a few days.  You might also make sure the surgeon didn't knick any vocal cords when he was in there; that does sometimes happen as well.  Good Luck and keep us posted!
