I had lymes with the bulls eye rash 23 yrs. ago and again without the rash three years later. Now 17yrs after that, I get lymes again without a rash. I had moved to another state after the first two times. I think I was undertreated and those pesty parasites came out of hiding and did a job on me. 2 1/2 yrs ago when I first took ill, I felt the stiff neck and a couple other symtoms that I had felt previously. I asked my doctors to please test me for lymes and they wouldn't. I was in and out out hospitals, diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, etc..No neurologist could make heads or tales out of my whole body parathesia(pins & needles), balance problem, etc. I finally cried to my doctor to PLEASE give me a lyme test and he said okay. I received a note in the mail from him telling me that the test came out positive! Last month I had my Picc Line taken out (was going to IV therapy everyday). I still don't feel better. Now yesterday I was deffinately diagnosed with Hashi and hypothryoid. My parathyroid is elevated and the endo doc doesn't know why. Today I started Synthroid. (0.075mcg). I was walking around sick with Lymes for 2 1/2 years and no doc would test me for it!

Typically, testing for Lyme is like looking for a needle in a haystack.  It is highly common for standard Lyme tests to have negative results, despite having the bacteria or antibodies in the body.  That is because after the initial infection period, the bacteria hides in cells and cell walls, instead of floating freely in the blood.  

LLMDs are the way to go.  Usually, your mainstream physicians won't believe you have Lyme..even if they see the tick still embedded in your skin.  Unfortunately, the regenerative time frame of the bacteria is 30 days, so taking antibiotics for 30 days or less doesn't get rid of the infection.

Thats a difficult question. Elisa lyme test a is common test doctors use to diagnose Lyme. It test for the antibodies in your blood. As well as the Western blot test which is usually used after Elisa to confirm. Western blot is more accurate, but the accuracy rate among these types of test is about 40-60% depending on when you contracted the disease. The best way to rule out Lyme's is to see a LLMD doctor who specializes in Lyme and can run a specialized panel.

I tested sero-negative for Lyme but PCR positive for Babesios, one of the co-infections.  The Lyme Dr dx'd me with Lyme, as the CDC says it's a clinical dx and tests are merely a resource.  He realized my Thyroid wasn't up to par but we never got around to treating it due to treating both the other infections.  I should mention that both my Son and Spouse each showed positive with Lyme as well. So I was dealing with treating all three of us.  

It is very common for the Thyroid to get out of whack with Lyme involved.

What is unique for us is that each of us acquired the Lyme years and geographic distances apart.

I have Lymes and probable Hashi's. Would like to know more about how Lymes would make a person get Hashi.

Can you update your post?  What were your symptoms of lyme?  how did they test for this and treat it?

Yes, I was just diagnosed with Hashimotos and Lyme on July 26.  It has been quite an experience...It has been very difficult to determine what symptoms are Hashimotos and what symptoms are Lyme.  The both present similar symptoms.  To make matters worse my infectious disease doctor seems to blame everything on Hashimotos.
