I have a choking feeling in my throat and hoase voice. My doctor has said it is a goitre.....can you tolerate anything such as a high-neck sweater or scarf around your neck? - it could well be a goitre or possibly nodules - definitely request blood tests....TSH T4 and T3 - a goitre can indicate Hashimoto's Disease!
Many people get a choking sensation when the thyroid is swollen and/or inflamed (goiter), or when they have nodules. A thyroid ultra sound will show whether or not you have swelling/inflammation and/or nodules.
The choking sensation can also be caused by anxiety, even if you don't "feel" anxious.
Acid reflux, swelling/inflammation of the thyroid, nodules, and anxiety, can all be indications of a thyroid condition. As LazyMoose said - get tested for thyroid hormones, Free T3 and Free T4, TSH and thyroid antibodies.
An endoscopy only shows damage in the upper digestive system. This test can be fine with people that currently have acid reflux. Many people have reflux but their upper GI tract looks fine.
The lump feel in the throat is not necessarily damage. Its natural for the throat muscles to tighten in people that have acid reflux - and this will not show in an endoscopy test.
So why do you think its not from acid reflux? I would think it could be. You can get it in your sleep and not know it until one night you wake up choking.
Some people with autoimmune thyroid also have the lump in the throat feeling. Again, no test will show the 'feeling'. But of course thyroid blood tests can be performed to if the thyroid is acting up - Free T3, Free T4, TSH and antibodies: TgAb, TPO, TSI
