What kind of scan should I get?

My Endo wants me to have a scan done on my neck, an ultrsound. Is this the common scan to get to check my thyroid? Will it show if I have nodules, thyroiditis, cancer, tumors?
Will a scan be able to see all the way though to the parathyroid gland, or will I have to have the seperate parathyroid blood test?
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Remar

Thank you Chitchat. I've had TSH, FT3, FT4 and antibodies done already and I am with in normal range. You and I have talked about this. My Endo said I have all the symptoms of being hypo and started me on Levoxyl 25mcgs. That was a total nightmare! After 8 days of being on it I thought I was having a heart attack.
I just was'nt sure what the scan would show. Stella told me it would'nt show the parathyroid unless it was a really good tech doing it so I would need to have the blood test for that.
Thanks for answering my post. Take care. Remar

Hi Remar...

Not sure on the para's but the ultrasound will show all of the above but cannot definitively rule in or out Cancer but could show trademarks like calcifications, etc.

It shows size of thyroid, nodules, how the present, etc.

Let me see . I think there's some more info in our health pages and will post for you.
