I wonder if certain conditions have to be present to go into tetany--I also had that experience a day after surgery. I started to hyperventilate, which made it much worse (the doctor surmises). Also, the shock or trauma to the body after surgery might make the symtoms more pronounced, resulting in tetany? I think it's so rare that there are few studies on this. At any rate, the fact that you don't have the symptoms is good! I just read somewhere that calcium is absorbed better taken with food, something I don't do currently. Worth a try.
Last Calcium was 7.0 if you can believe. Dropped from 7.6. I was testing a theory that I was actually taking too much Calcium and it was causing a reverse effect. Guess I was wrong. Talking double the Rocaltriol, normal Magnesium. Though I had stopped the Magnesium all together cause those levels were too high.
Makes me a little nervous as I went into tetany after surgery when the Calcium dropped to 6.3. But even with a level of 7 I have no symptoms. Makes me wonder...
It took my calcium about 2 months after TT to get back in the normal range. I was taking 6 x Oscal 500 +D. My parathyroid came back normal right after surgery. I also had no symptoms once I left the hospital.
How much calcium are you now taking daily? And what are the calcium levels (before, and now)?
