TT/Lobectomy Scars - what did you do?

For those of you who have had TTs or lobectomies, did you do anything special to help the incision heal? Also, did the doctors give you (or did you find on your own) any creams/salves/ointments to help the scar's appearance? Please share!

Someone asked earlier about the scar and sun exposure, and everyone said to SPF like crazy to protect it.  Good to know!

My TT is on Monday...stress is my constant companion.  =)

Thank you!

That's wonderful!

No, I'm having the surgery done in Glens Falls.  I will be going to Albany for RAI though, to a nuclear med. specialist.

I had TT nearly 2 years ago.  I used nothing on my scar, except to keep it well protected from the sun.  I didn't have sutures on the outside, only steri strips and some kind of "glue" that sealed everything to make it waterproof.  After about 6 months, the scar was barely noticeable.  After 2 years, it is all but invisible.  I have to look for it sometimes.  Hope you have the same results!

Who is doing your surgery? An Albany doc?

I didn't have the surgery, but lavender oil is well know to help heal scars and burns. You can use it full strength. It smells good and is relaxing as well.

I used Glaxal Base, recommended by my sister in law who is an oncology nurse.

My surgeon's nurse recommended a silicone gel. She said there are a number of products on the market but they are quite expensive. I've known people who used Vaseline on their scars. As for the sun, I was told to keep it covered because the sun will only darken the scar.
