about drinking water after an rai

Hi Dave, I had an RAI done 3 days ago, I hate water, was told to drink lots of water, I think that maybe I drank alot more soda than I did water, will this effect my radiation from flushing as quickly?  Also, I have a 2 year old that I was told by my doctor, could come home today, I am not comfortable with that, what precautions do I take to make sure that she is not effected by my radiation?  Thankyou, Lynette

You need more water - I burnt my saliva glands and have trouble now with them the rest of my life.

I wasn't told to "flush"

Eat lemon drops too.

Limit soda.

I had RAI and isolated myself from my 2 year old grandson for 2 weeks to be on the safe side even though I was told a week.
As for the soda....I dont see it causing any problems and as long as you chewed or sucked on sour candy, then the saliva glands will be ok.
You are over the worst.
Take Care.

I forgot to ask , what was your dose of RAI? Perhaps if you had a small dose 3 days is enough isolation. A small dose would be 3 or 4 mci. I had a dose of 200 mci.

I would stay isolated from your child for at least 1 week because her thyroid is still developing.  Were you given information about isolation after RAI.  It is important to sleep  alone, use a separate bathroom and flush twice after use.  Keep laundry separate and dishes  as well.  You shouldn't prepare food for others for 1 week.
