hypothyroidism and tinnitis

Hi Dr.
I have ringing and pressure in my left ear along with an inflammed feeling in my thyroid gland.
I feel horrible and everyday it's a struggle to keep going.  Even my gums ache. I've been to the ent for the ringing in my ear and sinusitis.  I use a neti pot and just finished antibiotics but I'm still no better. Now it seems my sinuses are better but my thyroid is burning. I am hypothyroid and I'm on levothyroxine .050. My endocrinologis was mad when I went off synthroid and now take the generic because of the cost.  Now I'm wondering if the levothyroxine isn't potent and that's what's causing the problem.  Help!

Generic Levothyroxine is not held to the same quality standards during manufacture that Synthroid is. Every time you get your perscription refilled you are taking the risk of taking a different strength of medication.

That's why it's cheaper, and that's why smart doctors won't perscribe it.

Lipitor should not be taken by anyone taking Levothyroxine, either.

As for the superiority of socialized medicine, don't even start. People in Canada flock here for treatment because they don't want to wait six months for tests they can get here immediately.

Doctors in England have to follow government guidelines designed to save money, not lives. You get tests when the government says you get tests. There is no "bending the rules" or early treatment. You're lucky to get a blood test three months after a dosage change over there. Here it is six weeks, or less.

And Armour is for SOME people, not the cure-all for everyone. For many people it will make you sick. Neither My Endo nor my PCP is getting free vacations from the drug companies, and if Armour was THE drug, my Endo would give it to me just to shut me up.

The docs understand very well. Yes there IS an "arrangement" between docs and the pharmaceutical companies. I can't continue here as I'd have to write volumes on this! HAS ANYONE HERE SEEN THE MOVIE "SICK" by M. Moore?
We are the only country in the world that treats the sick, the elderly and the poor as we do here... SHABBILY, WITHOUT DIGNITY OR RESPECT.

When I hear "my doc was MAD because....." I could scream. How dare they not listen to all your problems!? How about asking THEM to buy you the meds? THEY can afford them. Sorry I barged in here....... I wish you both luck but also want you both INFORMED. In this country you CANNOT depend entirely and only on your doctors. THINGS HAVE CHANGED PEOPLE.
I wonder how many people KNOW where the USA stands on the chart of good healthcare in the world. Let me give you a start..... FRANCE is number one.

I been dealing with ringing ears for about 3 months now. That's one of the symptoms I hate the worse next to the depression and fatigue. I'm on the levothyroxin still trying to get to my target. Sometimes I wonder if it's the right nedicine.

I know what you mean about the cost of medicine. Funny how too similar medicines can have such a cost difference. Just because they still have the patent, they are allowed to rape the public of their money. Wonderful health care system we have. I been paying insurance premiums my whole adult life. Now I have to pay close to $5000 out of pocket over my health. Something just isn't right there. I wonder if these doctors get kick backs for prescribing more expensive medicine?? My doctor got mad at me when I told him I couldn't afford the $138 out of pocket for Lipitor. Some just don't understand.
