thanks for your answer,
i dont nootice any cyst,or maby is so small that I cannot notice it so easily
thanks
If cyst is stable and small not treatment required.
Some larger cysts without inflammation and located in the area of pyramidal thyroid lobe can be treated with ethanol ablation;this method may no be very effective if the cyst located under base of tongue or close to hyoid bone.
The cyst can be visible with the head tilted back and tongue sticking out.
Thanks very much for the answers, any suggestions how to heal the cyst without surgery?can it heal by it self?if yes how?
There are any (even if andectal)alternative cures for this ailment?
thanks very much
Simona
The most practical advice now to avoid possible injury to the from t of the neck and promptly taking care of respiratory infection and dental problems especially sores/infection under the base of tongue, so infection will not spread to the cyst. No clinical significance means it is less than 1 cm.
The cyst may become infected which causes pain and swelling and can also lead to difficulty breathing and swallowing. The main reason surgery is recommended because a thyroglossal duct cyst frequently becomes infected. Uncommonly, a thyroglossal cyst may become malignant (cancerous).
Clinical significance is when it has an noticable effect on daily life. If you had an infected thyroglossal duct cyst you could say it is of clinical significance but presently you don't have any symptoms.
thanks
so I need to be concerned about it or its something that heals by it self?
I dont have a swollen neck nor other particular syntoms in that area and what does it means" no clinical significance whatsoever" ?is that mean that is not a problme?so it is a problem or not? :)
or at the moment is not a problem but can become a problem?
thanks a lot
thanks
Excerpt from University of Utah: Thyroglossal Duct Cyst Patient Education...
"What is a thyroglossal duct cyst?
A thyroglossal duct cyst is a lump or swelling in the neck that develops from the thyroglossal duct. The thyroglossal duct is a canal in the neck that allows the thyroid gland to form during fetal development. If this duct does not close normally, it leaves a space that can fill with liquid or mucus (called a cyst). Thyroglossal duct cysts are most commonly diagnosed in children; however, they can develop at any age. One symptom is the appearance of a soft swelling or mass in the center of the neck. If the cyst becomes infected, it may be tender and red.
How is a thyroglossal duct cyst treated?
Treatment may include antibiotics to treat an infection. A surgery called a Sistrunk procedure may be used to remove the cyst and close the thyroglossal duct."
