I think they go by the symptoms that you have, such as sore throat, difficulty swallowing, voice changes, swollen lymph nodes AND a biopsy to get a definitive answer.

What if you have no nodules?   How do they pick it up?   Biopsy only?

The grouping of follicular cells and the hurthloid cells are a concern, but they alone don't indicate cancer.  Hypoechoic nodules are more often cancer, but not always.  Thyroid cancer is very hard to diagnose, and many times they really cannot tell until the nodule is out and sent to the lab.  You have a decision to make, you could have that part of the thyroid removed ad tested, or wait a few more months are re-test with a biopsy.

Hi .. WELCOME BACK!!!!

So sorry to hear of your loss .. really sorry.

Not being a doctor it's hard to DX but mine were hypoechoic and benign ..

Definitely ask your doctor ..the size is too small for FNA I think on the nodules, but the isthmus is over 1.0 cm but not sure what the proper size is for that part of the thyroid .. so I'm really not too much help actually.
