Removal of tumor in neck

I was diagnosed with a tumor in my neck several years ago, it was tested and I was told it was a benign nodules.  Since then, I feel it has got bigger and I am noticing it more now, having difficulty lying down and sleeping because it feels uncomfortable and also I feel like I have to force myself to swallow.  I have seen the consultant again this week and am having a biopsy done again on Friday.  He is also arranging an ultrasound scan to be done as well.  He said that I will probably have to have it removed but this will involve me taking hormone replacement for the rest of my life.  Has anyone had this done and what side effects will these hormone replacement meds have?  also, what will they be?  Would love to hear of anyone else's experience of this. Thanks.

Thanks for your comment I am so sorry, how are you now (I'm not too sure what RAI is!). I had biopsy today, but can't wait to have it out as I don't trust all these tests! I didn't realise until the specialist nurse told me today that I have had this since year 2000 almost 10 years! Its only this last couple of years that its got bigger and making me feel uncomfortable.  I have asked if they can get me in asap as I am really anxious.

Hope you are okay.

Not to scare you or anything, I had four benign nodules, and when they took three of them out they found cancer in the thyroid tissue.  Upon further surgery they found two more tumors-four nodules, four tumors.   I am currently awaiting RAI...I was having issues with swallowing and hoarseness, blood pressure, hot/cold, wacky periods, they found out I had Hashimoto's syndrome.  Even though all my levels were normal I had high TPO antibodies.  I, too, was 44 when I found the cancer, I would have it taken out.

Are they removing a tumor or the thyroid gland with a tumor?
