short of breath due to thyroid/graves/RAI

Hello....anyone short of breath due to thyroid problems? I have been short of breath upon minimal exertion for a year now :(  I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's, but it was dismissed that my SOB was due to that......so began my journey of 11 specialist......heart, lung, rheumatology......had a heart cath done, all kinds of heart tests, also lots of breathing tests, etc.... Finally, sent to endocrinologist at Johns Hopkins who diagnosed me with Graves Disease and treated me six weeks ago with an RAI treatment.  My TSH is going up (1.50 now) but my symptoms haven't changed, seem worse now.  Anyone have RAI treatment that can give me hope that this is going to work ?  It has been so hard but I focus on what I can do and not what I cannot do.  When this hit me a year ago, I was working out at the gym three days a week and walking on the other days and only 10 lbs overweight. As I look over the past years, I realize now how many symptoms I have/had......thanks :)

I haven't had RAI or Graves', but I can assure you that shorness of breath (I know SOB as something else entirely!) is a very frequent symptom of hyperthyroidism.

After RAI, it takes the thyroid time to "die".  While it's doing that, symptoms often don't improve or can actually worsen a bit as the dying cells "dump" hormone into your bloodstream.

It will work.  You have to have patience.  Many doctors don't tell their patients that it can take several months before they feel better.  Hang in there...you'll feel better.

All the best...

I don't know if I have an adrenal issue......I just have been on prednisolone for 21 yrs and dr. and I feel that my adrenals are probably atrophied !

When I mentioned stress, I meant that I pushed myself a lot to achieve!
Thanks again for caring.......

Just curious again..... do you  happen to know the names of the antibody tests that were done?

Which adrenal issue do you have?

When you mention the stress of your workouts at the gym, are you referring to the activity, itself, or do the workouts actually cause you great stress?

I have been short of breath upon minimal exertion for a year....no change despite TSH being 2.89 or .01.
I have seen my antibody tests, and one was off the chart, and the other was about 10 points above the number that suggested the highest limit for NOT having Graves Disease.....so with all the symptoms, the doctor treated me with the RAI.
SInce I already had an autoimmune disease 31 yrs ago, I have been on prednisolone, 7.5 mg daily since then.....also have Hashimoto's. I keep asking the doctors if the stress of working out at the gym was too much for my body due to me not being able to make my own adrenaline...and that perhaps the shortness of breath is related to the now atrophied adrenal glands......answers from four drs. is no......sooooooooooooo.
Thank you so much for your encouragement !

I had shortness of breath when I was very hypo......so if your shortness of breath doesn't get better, you might want to have your thyroid hormones (not just TSH) tested to make sure you aren't headed to hypo, which you will eventually.

I'm kind of curious.  If you don't mind my asking, on what basis were you diagnosed with Graves Disease?  Do you have copies of your antibody tests?
