Can nerve damage cause a rash years later?

I was hit in the face by a line-drive foul baseball at minor league game almost 5years ago. I had nerve damage from the accident and the doctor who did the reconstructive surgery assured me that surgery would add to the nerve damage. Since the nerve began to feel anything again, I have had a rash on the same side. This rash appears like achne however there is no puss or anything coming out of these lesions. They just form and take a couple weeks to heal. When one heals more show up. Is there an obvious answer? Can nerve damage cause a rash? Someone suggested that maybe an itch (caused by the nerve damage) is making me touch the area more, therefore causing the rash. I just thought if that were the case then these behave more like acne. please help me
