My best friend died. The cause of death was blunt force trauma. The police ruled it as a suspicious death over a year ago. Basically they dropped the ball and can't pick it back up. I retired from the same Sheriffs department 5 years ago. Here is what I know. My friend was a healthy 55 year old male, living alone in a one story home. On
Christmas Day he was discovered by his girlfriend unconscious on the floor of his home. Her 911 call stated that she believed he was the victim of assault. He was transported to the hospital where the attending physician believed his injuries were constant with a fall. He was intubated and placed in intensive care. I went to visit him but he was unrecognizable. His face and head were swollen beyond belief. He had what looked like two sets of stitches one on each side of his head . I had to ask the nurse if this was really my friend. He was still unconscious and intubated suffering from 2 brain bleeds. It was later determined he was brain dead and his organs were harvested. My friends sister (who lived in California at the time) went to his house and discovered blood in every room in the house. It appeared from the amount of blood on the ground that he was near his gun safe when he finally collapsed. What I didn't know at the time was that he was dating a woman who was separated from her husband. From my sources still working at the Sheriffs Department, they told me that the girlfriend kept changing her story about where she was during the time of this incident. She also refused to give her extra house key to my friends only living family member (sister). The Pathologist ruled his cause of death as blunt force trauma. I waited a few months and no arrest was made neither were there any press released about this case. One of my friends at the Sheriff's Department said that the detectives closed the case as unknown and that my friends sister contacted a private investigator and he believed that my friend was beaten to death. He was able to obtain the video of the interview of the girlfriend (FOIA) and said that it appeared to have been conducted by amateurs. I then contacted the media and they investigated it and ran a story. My friends at the Sheriff's Department said that the Sheriff was furious that somebody went to the media about the story. I then did some investigating of my own.
Blunt force trauma does NOT always mean homicide. This can be the result of a severe car accident or a fall down a flight of steps or falling onto a hard service as well.
There are four types of brain bleeds (ICH). They all can create multiple ICH, but only two are the result of blunt force trauma, Epidural and Subdural hemorrhage. And from what I found out only one of those two can have two brain bleeds. That is a Duel Epidural hemorrhage. The two types of surgical procedures to repair a ICH are Craniotomy and Endovascular Repair, non of which would have created the amount of swelling on my friends head and face.
To my friends out there, am I wrong?
