head injury, then doing sprint triathlon

hi,
i hope someone can give me some quick feedback on this.  my husband got in a 4 wheeler accident last sat morning (about 1250 am)  he cut the left front forehead very badly, to the skull and required 19 stitches.  he did not lose conciousness, but he obviously hit his head very hard on the roll bar.  (it is a side by side 4 wheeler with a steering wheel and seatbelts like a car.)  and no, he did not have a seatbelt on.  well, here is my question - he is supposed to do a sprint triathlon on this sunday the 20th - swim 400 yards in a lake, bike 18 miles, and run a 5 k... he is getting his stitches out tomorrow and the doc is going to put steri-strips on the laceration.  i know he can cover that and stay safe from germs and so forth.  my concern is this:  should he be putting that much exertion on his body.  the family doc said that when you exercise, your blood flow increases, therefore more blood will go this brain and i am wondering if that could make anything swell up more and is that threat to his brain or just his tissue?  he  has said the bump area hurts and he has been icing that and taking ibuprofin a couple of times.  he said he has not had a headache..also it is numb by the 'bumped' area.  i don't want him to do the triathlon but he really wants to because he has trained hard for it.  in my opinion, he should let everything heal longer than 8 days. by the way, the er did do a ct scan and results were normal that night.
thanks for any advice, pstutt

I'am a man with TBI and other handicappes as a result of a car jacking in 2001,4 years to 6 years ago I started living on my own. I finally got into a real nice condo/apt. Out the blue my land lord doen't want to renew my lease,I called him he has no reason. I feel its because of my handicapp, and the state also just finished upgrading the bathroom to meet my handicap needs, which cost the state $ 10.000.oo. so feel this is a clear cut case of landlord who wants something for nothing. I though I was done moving finally found my little piece of heaven. He has no reason at all,I've never been late with rent, don't party, just church. John Myers  937-594-0294

Hi,

Yes the doctor is right that exercise will increase the blood flow to his brain but at the same time too much exertion just a few days after an accident is also not called for.
I feel he should rest for a few more days especially since the bump is still there and that area is still numb. Do keep us posted!
