shaky eyes

i had a tbi almost a year ago, and since then i have had diplopia and apparently the reason for this is because the fusion part of my brain isnt working.

so i wear an eyepatch whenever reading or on the computer or watching t.v, which isnt a problem but lately my eye has been twitching. say i'm watching t.v or reading or something and everything will start shaking for a few seconds, it happens about two or three times a day.

does anyone know what is causing this and if it is serious? i have an appointment with an optometrist 18th feb, shall i wait until then or is it serious?

thank you doctornee, i went to the optometrist the other day (one that specialises in abi's) and he said it was most likely just due to tiredness of the eyes.

i imagine it'd be very similiar to any other muscle twitch i occasionally get.

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Eye strain, squint, poor eye sight and astigmatism (where a cylindrical lens in needed as alignment is defective) can all be the cause. In all probability treating this will help cure the twitch.
Eye twitch is also associated with abnormal functioning of the basal ganglion of the brain. There is no successful cure for this cause of blepharospasm, although several treatment options can reduce its severity. The injection of Botox into the muscles of the eyelids, paralyzes the muscles of the eyelids and gives relief. Biofeedback, acupuncture, chiropractice, and nutritional therapy may help others. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Do consult your optometrist or eye specialist to begin with. Take care!
