atypical trigeminal neuralgia

I have recently been diagnosed with atypical trigeminal neuralgia , I have severe crushing pain top and bottom of my right jaw pain into the cheek and across to my nose, ear ache and some neck pain. All the pain is in the right side and stops exactly in the middle of my face.  (I dont get a headache with it . the attacks have lasted up to 12 hours with no reprieve until i got some  tablets from my doctor.  These have helped and as long as i keep taking them i dont feel the pan although i sometimes sense it going on in the back ground. I wondered if the neuralgia could have been bought on by a neck problem i had years ago,  I had to wear a neck brace for 9 months and couldnt turn my head , it was a disc problem which we did not establish the cause of but i did try lifting something very heavy ., and around the same time i was in a job where i constantly had my head cradling a phone.  The neck problem made my fingers go numb. but that was on the left side not the right. It also cause balance problems which the doctor said was a nerve going to my ear, that was on the right side. could the neck injury and the nerve all be connected? Will I always have to take the tablets do you think ( my general health is good i am female 46, very active/dancer)

Try lyrica or a combination of cymbalta and
Lyrica. Works for me.

So cymbalta does work for TN? I'm asking because I have been having pain very similar to that of TN, and my neurologist originally wanted to try Ubrelvy but my insurance does not cover it. On the other hand,
my PCP has subscribed the generic of cymbalta for fibromyalgia and nerve pains and etc. I haven't picked it up from the pharmacy yet. How long did it take for it to kick in for your TN pain?

Hi

its the tegretol I am on two tablets a day, they build up in your system I think so you cant take them as an when you are in pain, (they are not painkillers but work on the nerves that cause the pain.

I have had no side effects apart from dropping off to sleep alot when i am not active

for pain relief I have been given tramadol hydrocloride tablets. but I dont really have to take them as the other tablets work so well.

before i was on the Tegetol my attacks lasted for up to 12 hours and i would cry from the pain it was so bad in my ear teeth neck sinus and eye. so a little sleepiness is a small price to pay.

how long have you suffered, and good luck with the mri
