odds of getting pregnant

I'm soooo bummed today. I read "How to Get Pregnant" and the doctor writes that women in their early thirties have only a 10% chance of getting pregnant each cycle, and 76% chance of becomming pregnant within a year. I didn't know that at 32 my age acts against me, had I known that, I would have started thinking about baby #2 three years ago, when I was still in my late 20s and my odds were much better!
Just wanted to share that because I feel depressed.

I'm also coming up to being 32yrs old, I'm overweight,  used to smoke and thought i'd never get pregnant... i actally got pregnant 6months after coming off the pill and only 1 month after we really began ttc. Unfortunately i have recently had a miscarriage, but will be ttc again soon. Dont get to tied up in stats, as long as you give yourself the best chances then i'm sure your age wont effect anything

Here's another success story for you: my mom had my little brother when she was 37.  She and my dad concieved within the first 3 months of trying!  My brother is 13 now and healthy and happy.  Statistics are fine and dandy, but remember, someone has to be in that 10%.

Hey, hang in there.  I am 37 going on 38 shortly and currently ttc for #2.  I concieved dd at age 35 with a little help via IUI (but I have PCOS so I had that hurtle to overcome.)

My friend both at 38 and 40 without any help successfully had two pg and two wonderful babies!

The precious advice is spot on. Take care of your body and if things don't go as planned, look at your options in regards to fertility help from a RE or your GYN.

Don't worry hun.....that's only 2 percent less than a woman in her 20's I think. It's all about timing! Look up Deanna's Plan....it's posted at the top of this forum and try that out. Don't let it stress you out. 32 is still young and if you're healthy and don't smoke..it's a bonus!! Also take vitamin B. It helps.

Don't let that get you down. I have read the odds but I can't find any info on what these odds are based on. Are they based on someone who is doing everything right (eating right, cutting out caffiene and alcohol and bd'ing at all the right times every single month). I think the 10% odds can be increased if you are in good health and do everything right. Plus that is just an average, some women are more fertile than others going into their 30s. I have been ttc for 8 months and I like the odds that I have a 76% chance of getting pregnant within the next 4 months and only 24% chance that I won't be. Although I am 37 so my odds might be a bit lower. Good luck to you and remember that at age 32 your odds of getting baby #2 are really really good.
