12 hour fever

Please excuse me if this is covered elsewhere, couldn't find anything using search.

I have had several episodes several years apart of a high fever with no other symptoms.  Typically, I get chills at bedtime, fever spiking above 102F (high for my age), alternate chills & fever through the night, heavy sweat towards dawn when the fever breaks, and then next day absolutely fine!

No respiratory symptoms, no earache or headache, no muscle aches, no vomiting or diarrhea, no rash ... just the high fever.

I have seen similar descriptions elsewhere, so I don't think I'm alone in this, but I have found no explanation.

Since whatever "it" is, my immune system seems to handle it just fine, this is not a big health concern, but (especially as an ex-medical biochemist) I am CURIOUS!  Is it a known virus/family of viruses?  Some normally harmless pathogen that lurks in my system all the time but only occasionally flares up?

What?

I was vaccinated for TB in England, when we lived there.  I suspect this is one (or more) of those families of miscellaneous viruses that only virologists care about classifying, rather like the 99 rhinoviruses that can cause the "common cold" (but this fever is odd in having no cold or flu-like symptoms).

Have you had a TB skin test?  I assume if you are from BC you haven't been vaccinated for TB, so you would not have to worry about a false positive.
