2 years of chronic pain

After leaving hospital following a three day stay for a severe ear and throat infection on my right side, I came home to make what seemed at first to be a full recovery. A week later I began having tension pains at the base of my skull  - only on the right side. The pain went down my neck and into my right shoulder area. My right cheek and jaw area also felt tight and achy. The pain has never left me and I have seen many specialists to no avail, although I have been diagnosed with bursitis on my right shoulder and an MRI of my jaw did show some mild joint abnormalities. I have also suffered terrible hair loss just on that side - probably due to stress. Can anyone relate to the above? TIA

I can give it a try. I do not have a gall bladder anymore so I am sure this compounds my situation. I take strong digestive enzymes with each meal to help with digestion. I have tried HCL and it causes stomach pain.

Have you tried the baking soda (sodium bicarbonate, not baking powder) test? My mother tried this test and didn't burp for an hour!

The following steps help to determine your stomach's acidity:

1. Perform this test first thing in the morning on an empty stomach (before
eating or drinking)

2. Dissolve ¼ teaspoon of baking soda into an 8 oz glass of cold water

3. Drink the solution and start timing

4. Record the time until you first burp up gas

5. Perform this test for 5 consecutive days (or longer) at the same time each day to give a better estimation of your stomach’s acidity

Time until first burp:

If you burp immediately and excessively your stomach acid level is probably too high

Under 2 min: indicates normal acidity

2 - 5 min: low normal acidity

Over 5 min: possible hypochlorhydria (low stomach acid)

No burping indicates possible achlorhydria (no stomach acid).

I have read this article and my supplements and diet follow what they have stated. I have had terrible recurrent vaginal yeast infections, recurrent vaginitis, recurrent athletes foot, itchy skin on scalp and everywhere, and cracked lips in corners of my mouth. Changing my diet helped but if I ingested to many carbs I would develop these conditions so I know I have the candida overgowth pretty bad. I am hoping this is all that I have. I am able to control my weight, my blood pressure is 110/60, my cholesterol is in a good range just need to raise the good. Since these things are under control I believe my blood sugar is under control. Insulin resistance doesn't seem to be a problem. While trying to kill the candida it likes to cause muscle pain that can lead to joint pain. I detox a lot and it helps but doesn't always take all the pain away. I live with constant swollen glands right now and it has been that way since starting the nyastatin. I am hoping after a few months they will go away. I have constant low progesterone which I was told  was from the candida feeding on it. I do not know if this is true. I am suppose to start taking progesterone cream. I have read that it can cause candida to flourish so I am not sure I want to do this. I have to look into it more. Any info would be appreciated. I am glad you feel better,

I already reversed my insulin resistance. :) I've have never had any type of fungal condition so I've never suffered from dandruff, thrush, nail fungus etc.  A good article to read is from the Candida Diet website called Candida: Acid or Alkaline?

You should look into candida. It is a yeast that everyone has in the body. It can grow in any environment. It grows out of control from the use of antibiotics and causes an imbalance of our bacterial in our colons. I know you are insulin resistant. So are my husband, son and myself. Our endocrinologist told us that this is impossible to have 3 people different ages and ethnicities in the same family to have this condition at the same time. She recommended we see a disease specialist. This is a whole different story. I have been on the low carb, no sugar diet for over a year and it has improved my symptoms but does not get rid of my condition. Go to my profile page and look at my last journal entry, it will explain everything. I tried the HCL and it bothers my stomach.

Yeah I know. :) I've never had a fungal infection in my life just to add because I'm too acidic (in my case due to too much sugar causing insulin resistance which damaged my kidneys). Fungus cannot grow in an acidic environment. In fact my mother's severe systematic fungal infection all stopped in their tracks when she increased her low stomach acid with betaine HCL with pepsin supplements.

If it is a deficiency, what caused the deficiency?
I think you have candida overgrowth.
I suffered for many years with headaches and pain until I had surgery. Then my health went down the tubes with in 6 months. Candida is an opportunist and takes advantage of us when we are at our weakest point. Surgeons give heavy antibiotics for surgery and sometimes after surgery. In your case you were given heavy antibiotics to help heal your infection.
I was diagnosed with severe bursitis of the hip and doctors couldn't give me a reason for this. I also suffered with terrible plantar fasciitis of my right foot. I went on a strict diet with no carbs for months. It cleared up my pain, my bursitis and fasciitis. It didn't cure me completely but this is when I knew that my problems were caused from candida. Candida is releasing large amount of toxins into your body when it feeds on carbohydrates. Your body becomes overwhelmed. You lymphatic system and you liver cannot keep up to clean your body and you are left with these terrible symptoms. If you have had this condition for a while it will make you deficient in vitamins because the candida prevents your body from absorbing nutrients and breaking down your food properly.

Diet will not cure this condition, it will only help control the symptoms.
You must start on an antifungal regimen along with supplements to help kill the candida. Probiotics must be used to replace your lost good bacteria.
To put it simply, your colon bacteria is out of balance and must be fixed.

I woke up from surgery with chronic bladder pain. I was already in pain all over from magnesium deficiency but this was yet another symptom to add to a very long list of symptoms.  Little did I know for another two years that my moderate/severe magnesium deficiency moved into severe deficiency after surgery.

Excerpt from Ancient Minerals - Need More Magnesium? 10 Signs to Watch For...

"3. Do you experience a lot of stress in your life, or have you recently had a major medical procedure such as surgery?

Both physical and emotional stress can be a cause of magnesium deficiency.

Stress can be a cause of magnesium deficiency, and a lack of magnesium tends to magnify the stress reaction, worsening the problem. In studies, adrenaline and cortisol, byproducts of the “fight or flight” reaction associated with stress and anxiety, were associated with decreased magnesium.4

Because stressful conditions require more magnesium use by the body, all such conditions may lead to deficiency, including both psychological and physical forms of stress such as surgery, burns, and chronic disease."
