Breath taking pain

Help does anyone else experiance pain in the middle of their chest, middle of shoulder blades and chest pain radiates into the neck and jaw and lasts from 10 to 30 minutes, it's absolutely horrific there's nothing i can do I can't breath or move, even my son goes pale it frightens him too, it seems to happen every couple of months and you just have to go with it and wait for it to end, Ive tried all sorts but doesn't do nothing, haven't told my doctor as I've got that many ailments I'm just frightened to tell her I've got another, next time it happens I think I'm going to walk into the hospital which is right next door to me, so with a bit if luck the pain etc will still be going on... Please post if you too suffer with this or indeed know what it is, after I've had it happen I'm on edge for a week or so waiting for it to happen thank you everyone in advance xx Jill xx

Sounds like an attack of Angina to me. I would go straight to A & E next time it happens, as most doctors are useless when you have other problems as well, they just label everything on to any existing problems you have, but at the hospital there take a more with out prejudice look... hope this helps.

Hi there ..I had the exact same pain in all the areas you described. Mine was caused from Gerd which had gotten really bad. Partly because I had several gallstones which resulted in it being removed. Just have to watch what you eat. No great foods, no spicy foods. Try a diet that is more bland, see if that helps
Good luck

Hello Jill,

If you do experience this again, you should telephone 999.

If you are not sure about phoning up the emergency services or whether you should go to the hospital, telephone 111, that will take you to the out of hours doctors service. They operate when your doctors surgery has closed and until the surgery opens again in morning.  They will take your details, and assess your condition and will give you advice on what to do.  They would probably tell you to phone 999.

It is highly likely that you have been experiencing severe acid reflux.  But you do need to get a doctor to run some tests to make sure that it is not a heart problem.

Another condition that can cause similar symptoms is if you have a spinal problem, especially in the thoracic area.

If you are not experiencing a "severe attack" at the moment, make an urgent appointment to see your doctor.  By you saying that you have "many ailments", I am presuming that you may have some type of arthritis.  If that is the case and if you have not already had xrays done of your spine, ask your doctor to refer you to get your spine xrayed to see what condition the thoracic part of your spine is.

As you have a hospital right next door to you, you could get someone to take you to the hospital when you are having an "attack".   Calling the emergency services, you would get the paramedics to come to your home.  They do carry a small machine that does a read out of your heart.

Let me know how you get on.

Best wishes.
