Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Shortness of breath or inability to take a breath is medically called dyspnea. The problem can be either in heart or lung or due to anemia. Over exercising can also be a cause for breathlessness. At times due to too empty stomach or drinking lots of water before exercising can also cause breathlessness. Since you have a chest discomfort, angina, heart attack and pulmonary embolism should be ruled out. If there is wheezing, asthma is likely. If there is cough, chronic obstructive disease or asbestos, silica etc pollution as the cause is likely. Other causes are mitral valve problems, pulmonary hypertension, anemia, hyperventilation syndrome or psychological factors. A detailed and comprehensive investigation will be required including EKG, Chest X-ray, blood test for anemia, maybe CT scan of chest, BP recording etc. Please consult your PCP to start with.
Hope this helps. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Thanks all, I am seeing my doctor on Saturday, so hoepfully it will be something minor!
I agree, it could be indigestion or acid reflux and it could possibly be an allergy of some sort to something you ate or inhaled or maybe asthma. It could be many things...see what your Doctor thinks for sure.
Have your doctor check it can be caused as little as something like gas or indegestiion or you may be suffering something major such as mini heart attacks which many people have but aren't aware until they suffer a major heart attack. Since it dosen't get worse with activity though it may be indegestion.
I would recommend getting a cardiac workup and a chest x-ray for starts.
Have you notified your PCP/Family Physician about this?
