Chest pain

Several months ago I felt pain (it wasn't really strong) in my chest bones. My chest bones usually do stick out a little (something me and my sister got from our dad) but now I think they stick out even more than usual. My main concern is this pain I have, I can't really locate it, sometimes it's in my bones above breats, sometimes it's somewhere between bones. I googled it (I know, mistake) and of course it's a sign of lung cancer. I went to my doctor but she said it was probably nothing and sent me home. I am surely not developing anymore (I'm 21), but it's really starting to bother me, even when I have seat belt on or zipped up jacket. I am a bit afraid because I used to smoke, but I cut down on it. What could it be? Could it be connected to GERB (because I do have some issues with that, but as far as I know, it's nothing serious)? I am not coughing or having any breathing difficuties (shortness of breath and such).
Thank you in advance!

You are welcome. It makes sense for your age. But it doesn't go away. I still have it at 51. It hurts a lot. Very tender to the touch.

Does it hurt when you press on the area? I have fibrocystic breast and even at the very top of my chest just below the collar bone it hurts and it is fibrocystic breast. It is very tender to the touch. But does it hurt without touching it, like inside your bones? If so, you can get a bone scan to make sure there is nothing going on. I have had one and it can't hurt. They may take a Xray first instead of doing the bone scan. GERD is more in the stomach, or esophagus or in the chest area sometimes. It is not usually felt in the bone. I have GERD too. Let me know if you have any other questions.
