Chronic sore throat

Hello i am 20 year old and i  have been a regular smoker since 5 years. From time to time ;my cigarettes consumption goes upto 15 per day and on average 10 per day.

Last year ;around october i started getting chronic sore throat for the first time where the pain varied from the lower to upper throat right to left and since then it has been recurrent.

I had been to a specialist doctor and said that i was perfectly alright.

I now fear that i may have throat cancer cause the sore just do not go away. What do you think?/or is it just smoking that irritates my throat cause i have not quit yet.

Please help.

try lowering your cigarettes per day. i used to smoke that much but when i smoked less my throat was never sore. i dropped from a pack a day to 4 or 5 half cigarettes per day and ocassionally have sore thoat.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
What you are having is called chronic sore throat and causes include allergies to pet dander, molds, dust and pollen, dry air, constant exposure to tobacco smoke or chemicals, alcohol and spicy foods and gastroesophageal reflux disease. Oral cancer can also be associated with these symptoms but it is accompanied by other signs or symptoms that may include hoarseness, difficulty swallowing, noisy breathing, a lump in the neck, and blood in saliva or phlegm.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

It may not be something that the cigs have caused like throat cancer, but you never know, and the cigs are definately irritating whatever. Whether its your sinuses or your tonsils, or what. But you are never too young for cancer. Its very unlikely at 20. but you've been smoking for 20 yrs, and do you smoke pot? One joint is like smoking 4 cigs. But if you had it checked your probably good on that issue. But you really need to make sure, and go to a doctor again cause Micheal Douglas had the same issue, sore throat, got it checked and they didnt see nothing, keep hurting and he went back and by that time he had stage 4 throat cancer. Not saying that you do or it even anything like cancer, but please go as soon as you can and get it checked out again, and be more thourough, and go to another doctor and get that second opinion. But like the other person, said tonsilitis is also an option. I dont know...mine are gone..been gone.

Well, I dont know about the throat deal, but I had a cough from a spot on my lung. I coughed for two yrs and it gave me an addiction because I needed cough medicine which the addiction led to me possibly having Hep C. Fortunately, now that ive decided to take care of myself for some time now the spot is gone, and I have a good handle on my addiction but not before it left major long lasting bad effects on my life. My suggestion is go to a different doctor, there is some reason your throat hurts even if it is just irritation. And for the love, please cut down, at the least. Im down to 1-4 cigs a day. Thats all I allow myself and I dont crave no more than that now cause ive got my tolerance down, but im on my way to quitiing completly.
