this may very well be a sleep disorder or...
this happened to one of my friends. it was a bad side effect of Yaz and she ended up having to switch her pill. are you on any type of hormonal contraceptive?
Sometimes, for any number of reasons, we find we are unable to get a good nights rest. If you are not depressed, as a result of something that is going on in your life, and you can't really pinpoint a good reason for not being able to sleep, then it might be that you are experiencing alot of the symptoms that you are describing as a result of your inability to get sound sleep. I would imagine that sleep deprivation could cause headaches and it would certainly cause you to be unable to focus on tasks and cause changes in your personality and the way that you relate to people. Sleep is so important to EVERYTHING. I guess you need to try to remember which came first, your being unable to get good sleep or the headaches. If the headache came first, and that is what caused you to not be able to sleep, then you should probably see a doctor to see what is causing the headaches. If depression could have had anything to do with any of this, you should also see someone to see if there is some type of condition that needs to be treated. I am worried about your feeling "empty" and I am not sure I really understand what you mean by that. Try to eat well and try going to bed EVERY night around the same time so that you can get at least 8 good hours of sleep. As hard as that might be, you need to re-establish good sleeping habits, and your body needs extra good nutrution if you are under any sort of stress (as most of us are in this day and time). You might also try drinking a cup of hot chamomile tea or warm milk before you go to sleep and maybe read a little for a few minutes. I hope this helps a little. Good luck!!
Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
The symptoms could be due to a sleep disorder and hence you must consult a sleep specialist and get sleep studies done. Inadequate or improper sleep can cause cognitive problems and dizziness. Benign intracranial hypertension is another possibility. You need a prompt evaluation by a neurologist. Hypothyroidism, hypoparathyroidism, adrenal insufficiency are a few things I would recommend you get investigated for. These can precipitate BIH. A spinal tap is a must both to diagnose the condition and to treat it.
The symptoms could be due to compression of the spinal nerves in the cervical spine region. This can happen due to overuse of computers, work involving straining of neck, herniated disc, canal stenosis, bone disease, spondylosis, poor posture etc. A MRI of the cervical spine and nerve conduction studies may be required. Please consult a neurologist. The treatment is to remove the compression. You have to discuss the best treatment option with a neurologist, which can range from medication to physiotherapy to traction, cervical collars or even surgery. Alternatively you can visit a chiropractor or a physical therapist and learn some exercises which you can do to relieve the compression.
Use a hard bed to sleep. Avoid a pillow. Roll a towel and place it under your neck while sleeping on the back and between head and shoulder when lying on the side. Initially this will be uncomfortable but with time the acupressure will do wonders. Use an analgesic cream or spray. Anti-inflammatory drugs help.
Hope this helps. I think you should discuss these possibilities with your doctor. It is difficult to comment beyond this without examining. A comprehensive investigation is required keeping all the points in mind. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
