Fatigue, dizziness, severe abdominal pain

My son is 16 and has been sick since December 2nd, at first we thought he had the flu, he has and had severe abdominal pain, fatigue, vomited a few times and dirrahea, but the vomitting and dirrahea have subsided and now he has dizziness and the abdominal pains and very tired, he basically lays around and does nothing.  But he has not get any better, so I took him to the MD and they said yes it is the flu gave him some medications for the nausea.  Three days later we ended up at the ER severely dehydrated they seemed to think this had nothing to do with the "flu" he had a week earlier???  They did numerous blood work and everything was normal actually they said he is very healthy but he isn't... they seemed to think he should be back to school in a few days well four days later we were back at the doctor and they did more blood work and again found nothing then he had stools samples checked for numerous things and nothing again, the doctors almost seem like we are making this up, my son is very outgoing and active and this is driving me crazy not knowing anything please if anyone knows anything I would appreciate any help, he cannot miss anymore school he has been out since December 2nd

Hi
Thanks for writing to the forum!

There are three types of possibilities.
Crohn’s disease: http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/crohns/#diagnosis

Coeliac Disease: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coeliac_disease

Irritable Bowel Syndrome: http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/ibs/#diagnostic

Please read through these links and discuss this with your doctor and get a referral for a gastroenterologist. Also your son  may need to get some tests done. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

Have the doctors checked his iron level?  I am wondering if he has either or both celiac and crohn's.  Crohn's can be extremely painful with abdominal pain.  If his iron levels are low, the doctors should check for celiac.  Celiac affects the small intestines.
