Frequent Nausea/Vomiting/Loss of Appetite following Lap Chole

Our 17 year old daughter underwent a lap chole in Nov. She has had persistant nausea and vomiting over the past three months. She also is experiencing loss of appetite. She denies pain. She denies diarrhea. We contacted our primary care doctor and he did a complete CBC; Chem 20 with lipid panel; mono spot. All her labs were withing normal range including thyroid.

She is not pregnant. She has regular periods. Her PMH includes: tether spinal core release; appendectomy; lap chole; occassional migraines with menses.

Can a post lap chole patients have trouble with a fatty diet resulting in N/V? Our family doctor is referring her to GI for evaluation and possible dx for Chron's disease? My understanding is that Chron's disease primarily presents with fatique and diahrrha with abdominal cramping. She does not present with those s/s.

Thought?

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
One possibility is severe acidity and gastric reflux. Your daughter can take Omeprazole empty stomach in morning and see. Monitor her diet, log in what she eats and see if there is co-relation between what she eats and her symptoms. At times adhesions formed post surgery cause sub acute intestinal obstruction and this could also be a serious cause. Electrolyte imbalance is another possibility. Take care!

It is very common for people who have had this procedure to have problems like your daughter is experiencing.  Many people cannot eat high fat content, dairy products, they become lactose intolerent and some even have problems with some fiberous vegetables,  I suggest that you monitor her intake and reaction to certain foods and see what does and oes not bother her.  Again this is very common.
