Lump under left scapula

For as long as I can remember I've had a knot under my left scapula. A few massage therapists have noticed it, try to work it out, only to be unable to. It didn't bother me much so I just shook it off.

A few months ago however it started hurting and radiating pain to my head and giving me headaches. The doctor for some reason gave me a CT scan and xray of the head/neck thinking that the lump is just knot and to be sure the headaches weren't from other things.

Both came back normal and the headaches subsided so I dropped it. About 3 weeks ago the area started hurting again and going numb/tingly.  The doctor ordered an xray of the shoulder. I'm waiting on results. She says she wants me to go to a physical therapist and if that doesn't help then get an mri.  That really seems backwards to me.  The pain is still ongoing and I've only been prescribed muscle relaxers over and over again. The muscle relaxers have done absolutely nothing, even when doubling the dose. They don't relax me. I feel nothing except maybe Sleepy sometimes.

Today I went to get a massage again. The therapist spent FOREVER on the knot and as usual, nothing.  I feel worse than before I weneed to the therapist as now the knot hurts bday and I can feel it more prominently.

Is there a chance it's not a knot? What else could it be? I really would just like the pain to stop.
