brain fog

Hello,
I'm 17 years old and have been experiencing brain fog for a very, very long time now. I've had memory problems, problems with Spacial awareness, and sometimes problems talking. I usually get 6-8 hours of sleep every night of the week, except weekends where I get a little more sleep. Sleep doesn't seem to affect my brain fog. I also am active, regularly exercising once a week. Could you please tell me what's wrong with me and what I can do about it?

Hi, I don' t personally experience this, but I had a friend who did and it turned out he had a food intolerance; meaning, certain foods caused him to have brain fog and other symptoms. Perhaps you should visit a doctor who can test you for that? Or visit a Holistic Doctor who can help you go towards a more natural route to healing.

Hello and welcome to MedHelp's forums.  Thanks for your question.  Have you had a physical or well check yet with your primary physician?  This would be a good idea.  In actuality, you are not getting enough sleep for your age. A minimum of 8 is recommended and more is better.

Adding in more time to sleep may help.  I appreciate that is difficult at your age and why most teens work with a sleep deficit going on.  But making an effort during the week would be helpful.

Also, you are not really exercising at what is considered a healthy amount.

https://www.cdc.gov/healthyschools/physicalactivity/guidelines.htm This recommends by the CDC to do 60 minutes of vigorous exercise on a regular basis.  They say daily but as many times a week that you can would be best.

Diet is also important to consider.  

Are you stressed, anxious or depressed? These things can impact our cognitive ability.

The first thing to do is to set up an appointment with your doctor to make sure there isn't an underlying health reason for the brain fog.  And work on your lifestyle to also help.
