Lower abdominal pain

For almost 6 years now, I've had this terrible pain in my lower stomach, around where my bowels/uterus are. It feels like someone is stabbing me with a knife it's such a sharp pain. It makes my stomach bloat up so much that people think I'm pregnant. It used to be every day, but now it's just seldom, but I'm still curious as to what it may be. I've been told it is possibly IBS, but with it's strange patterns I'm not too sure. Does anyone else have this problem?

I do and I was told it is Polycystic ovary syndrome. You should look it up and see if your pain is the same as described... then talk to your doctor about it.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
You have not specified the side on which you have pain. Lower right abdomen pain is commonly due to appendicitis. The pain, can at times come and go and not give the classic picture. Crohn’s disease, diverticulitis, infection in kidney, kidney stones, constipation, ovary involvement in women, ectopic pregnancy in women (ruled out due to long history) , and mesentry (a thin tissue that carries the blood, nerves and lymphatics for the intestine) involvement. Pain and discomfort on the lower left side of abdomen can be due to several causes such as Crohn’s disease, diverticulitis, infection in kidney, kidney stones, adhesions, polycystic ovary in females, IBS, and constipation. Hence IBS, Crohn’s disease and chronic constipation should be ruled out first.
Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Do consult your doctor for a referral to a gastroenterologist. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
