My index finger on my left hand has a tingling sensation on the side of it and the fingertip is sensitive to the touch and I have excruciating shooting pain off and on all day in the finger and under the nail.  He is treating me for carpal tunnel.  Is he correct treating me for carpal tunnel?

I am not sure what your doctor is doing to treat it, so, I can not answer that question. I am sorry the pain is so bad. Try wearing a wrist brace in the time being until you can see a doctor and tell him about the pain.
