Musle Spasms after Knee Replacement Surgery

I had a total knee replacement on my left knee two months ago.  Just within the last three weeks, I have been having terrible muscle spasms during the night.  I wake up screaming in pain.  My knee is very sore after these spasms.  What can I do to make these spasms go away.  I am starting to be afraid to go to sleep!  Thank you very much.

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
It is quite possible that there is rubbing of either cartilage or bones with the metal or plastic components of the artificial knee joint. Once you go to sleep, the muscles become lax and make it easy for the joint to be more mobile. You may need physiotherapy to further strengthen the muscles around the knee joint. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
