Old patchy sunburn - looks like sunburn pigmentation. HELP

About a year ago i spent a lot of time in the sun and got a really bad sunburn. The highly affected area was my back and when the burn healed, peeled and tanned it left a lot of patchy white and brown marks. I just assumed it was like this because the skin never peeled in some parts as it did others and now i'm left with a very patchy brown and white back that can sometimes also be very dry so there fore i constantly now have to moisturise. After all this time it still hasn't gone away and now summer's coming up and i'm really uncomfortable with going back out in the sun with it. my doctor before told me to buy selsun gold shampoo for tinea versicolour but ive been using for a week and no changes have occurred. I'm pretty sure he diagnosed me with the wrong skin infection and i think it's just bad old patchy sunburn.
please help, thank you :)

I would not expect a sunburn post-inflammatory depigmentation to last so long.Possible TV but be careful with selsun. Excess can irritate!
