Pop and discomfort RS ribs

Hello,

Earlier today I was sitting on my bed. I leaned over a little too far to grab my shoes and felt a sort of pop and subsequent pain on my right side under my last rib on the right side about 3-4 inches lateral to the xiphoid process. The area extending toward the axilla is tender upon palpation, and the pain waxes and wanes. I feel as though if it were a hernia or a cracked rib, the pain would not wane as it does. It hurts when I extend forward, and when I'm sitting on the couch with my legs up.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions you may have. Thank you.

I've had that myself and it Is painful.  I'm not a physician, but I had something similar occur and it was a separation of my rib(s) from the cartilage.  It hurts so, but binding your rib area and taking NSAID's may help.  Give it 6 weeks and I feel your pain!

You very well could have broken a rib. With movement, especially regarding the lower ribs, pain can wax and wane, as you have described it, when the bone moves against itself or against the pleura. I would recommend evaluation and a chest x-ray.
