Positional Vertigo

About 3 months ago I went to the doctor and was diagnosed with positional vertigo. My doctor gave me Meclizine which I didn't need because it only lasted a day. It started again and I've have it for 2 days now. Does anyone know of any excecises I can do at home or any web site to show me how to do them?

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
The various exercises done are Epley maneuver, Semont maneuver and Brandt-Daroff Exercise. You can get illustrations of these on net.
Hope this helps. Take care!

Don't take the medication for dizziness - it won't cure you.  I had attacks of vertigo for 15 years until  I was sent to physical therapy and did the exercises faithfully and they are gone.  On your computer type in Brandt-Daroff Exercises for BPPV.  It has to do with the inner ear and the exercises succeed in 95% of the cases.  There is a chance that the vertigo will return in a year or so but another round of exercises takes care of it.  Don't dismiss doing these exercises.  They work and I'm only sorry that the doctors I had gone to previously pushed medication and not the exercises.  I do have to admit when the therapist was putting me through the exercises I thought "this is a waste of time" but it only takes three times a day for about 10 minutes and it is only for two weeks so give it a try.  I am SOOOOOO  glad I did.  You can do the repeat exercises at home if the vertigo comes back but I suggest that you go to physical therapy for the first session to make sure you are doing it right.  Most insurances pay for this.  Do it.  It works.

Hi I hope my comment will help. I have suffered from vertigo too. When I visited my doctor he also prescribed the same medicine. It is basically to help with dizziness. A good exercise is to lay down on one side, then try to get up slowly. If you are still dizzy try the other side. When you lay down also close your eyes. Then open your eyes slowly. This will let you know if you will have the problem. Sit up on the bed and get up slowly. Sometimes you lose balance. If this works you will be fine but one thing to remember is that this problem goes away and may come back. It has to do with inner eardrum equilibrium. I hope this helps.
