Right Side Pain / Discomfort

Female 26

I have been experiencing a mild but constant pain in my mid to upper right abdomen and back. It is sometimes accompanied by slight nausea and fatigue as well as a higher frequency of bowel movements (4-6 times / day as opposed to my normal 2-3 times / day). I have gotten the following tests done:

1. Urine: Culture, Urine Chlamydia/gonorrhea: NEGATIVE
2. Stool samples: Occult Blood, Stool Culture, Ova/Parasites, Stool WBC, Giardia/cryptopordidium Ag: NEGATIVE
4. Blood: WBC, RBC, HGB, HCT, MCV, MCH, PLATELETS, ESR: All normal
3. GY exam, Pelvic and Vaginal Ultrasound: all seems to be normal (no cysts)

I'm very concerned and not sure what is causing this pain. Any suggestions? What else should I be testing for?
Thank you

Your problems may be something to do with your liver and gallbladder.

You may have a kidney stone in the right kidney.  You would also get the nausea, pain and frequent bowel movements with that too.

As well as asking your doctor to check your for any liver and gall bladder problems, it may be worth getting checked out for any possible kidney stones.  You would only experience problems when the kidney stone moves and would possibly have an infection shown up in the urinary tract.

Like siverfox67 says, do not eat any fried foods, also do not eat highly spiced foods.

Make sure you drink plenty of water.  2-3 litres per day is usually recommended, more if you sweat or do workouts.  If it is a kidney problem, the water will help to flush things out.

You definitely need to get your problem investigated so that you can get the appropriate treatment.

Best wishes.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I'll try the laying down technique and I am making a follow-up appointment with my doctor soon to check for gallbladder - Will update.

This may seem a bit crazy, but I too, have had pain similar to what you have described, and I thought that I was having a heart attack. Do you think that you may have trapped gas in your body? It is a pain that is terrible. You think all sorts of things may be wrong. It travels from your lower abdomen all the way through your chest or back up to your shoulders. Just a thought, and what I do is lay down during the pain and elevate my waist and legs at an angle much higher than my back.  That allows the gas to flow back towards your abdomen and then our the way is should. I also will use pepto to help calm things down. This may not be what is wrong, but it wouldn't hurt to try it out as trapped gas can last for days and days before subsiding. I hope you get well and things are better soon!

PS  meanwhile, stay away from fried foods as they tend to make the pain worse.

Perhaps a Hidascan would reveal gallbladder disease.  Keep harping on your doctor until he finds what's wrong with you.  It could be a stone lodged in a duct - sometimes an endoscopy will show it - but a hidascan is more reliable. My stool samples came back negative for anything - but it looked like black pepper in my stool.  Turned out my gallbladder was full of sludge - not stones.  I had my gallbladder out many years ago and that resolved the problem.
