Sick of feeling sick

Hi All

For the last few years I have been experiencing nausea, wierd dizzy feelings like hot water being poured over my head followed by cramps in the tummy, diarrhoea, cold chills, irratibility, inability to sleep, sometimes followed by vomiting then fainting.  These episodes always happen at night after dinner around about 9.00 - 10.00 when I am sitting at home watching T.V.  I have suffered from IBS since I was thirteen, and was diagnosed with stomach ulcers some years ago.  Sounds like stress related things to me

I have two children and own a business.  I take Stemetil for the nausea followed by 5 - 10mg temazepan.  If I can get to sleep then I wake up fine the next day. But don't want to keep taking benzos.  Doctors are stumped.  Have an appointment with Gastroenterologist on Tuesday followed by Psychiatrist in November.  i am wondering if anyone else has ever had these problems.  It was happening once a month then once a week, now every second day.

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply to my question.  I do believe that a lot of my symptoms circulate to the same issues i.e. anxiety.  I have been a lawyer for a number of years and in high stress jobs.  It may be now that my body is telling enough is enough.

I will let you know how I go with the specialist on Tuesday.  Also have an appointment with Psychiatrist in November to deal with the anxiety.

Kind Regards

Hi
Welcome to the forum!
If you are having the symptoms during the night, when you are relaxing, it could be stress related. However it could also be due to things you ate during the day which have gone through the process of digestion and these could be causing a problem. It is not uncommon for IBS to be associated with gluten or lactose intolerance. So you have this intolerance, then taking products which have them can cause nausea.
One suggestion is to keep a stress diary, record what you eat and how long after symptoms start and what symptoms. This should also help your gastroenterologist to know what is causing your symptoms.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
