Small Hard Lump Behind Ear - Sudden Throbbing in Pain

Hello
I am a 18 year old male and I have recently (today) found a small hard lump behind my left ear at the base. I noticed it because I felt a fairly sharp throbbing pain and felt around to find it. It hurts even more to the touch. It does NOT seem to be attached to the skin but instead beneath the skin. I can NOT move it by moving the skin. I am aware that lymph nodes can become enlarged and hurt but this is not enlarged and i can't move it. I have a lymph node behind my right ear and know how one feels and how they can move with the skin. This is probably the size of a small bead. Also, it has come on very suddenly and seems to be getting worse. I called my mom and I am going to watch it over the next day or two but I would like to know if anyone feels this is of a more serious matter. As a side note I do suffer from acne (cystic included) and am on Accutane to treat it however, I have NEVER been in this much pain from a pimple and I do not ever get them behind my ears... Anyways, give me your thoughts!

THANKS!

What did you do for it to leave? How long did it take?

It ended up being a swollen gland! We are still not sure as to why it was swollen but I guess that doesn't really matter since it has completely cleared up now! Thanks for the help everyone.

Well if anything, it seems to be worse today so I am going to find a walk-in clinic near by since I am away for school and I can't get home to see my family doctor until Monday.
I have not been sick recently and am not sick now which is why I am fairly worried. The pain has not let up at all and is beginning to give me a headache (even scarier part).

So thanks for the replys!

Hello yes it could be a swollen lymph node, or possibly a boil.  It could also be caused be an ear infection, taxoplasmosis, recurrent scalp infections, yaws, hyperthyroidism, syphilis and secondary syphilis, lymphoma or tumor of lymph node, tonsil and sinus infection, tuberculosis,  Hodgkin's disease,  dermatitis, cat scratch fever or cat allergies, leukemia, or cancer.

If you have been ill recently that could be the cause, but you really need to see the doctor if it doesn't go away within a couple of days to make sure it isn't something serious, since it just came up for no apparent reason.

I Hope This Helps!
