I have the exact same problem, word for word.
When i read thismy eyes almost came out of their sockets. I thought i was crazy too, i can't figure out what it is, just today i was at the soviets and i went to them with my problem and they denied it they just don't seem to wanna help. AND like you said about the nurse, shed could smell it! People a block down can smell it. My family said they don't but their the only ones !
I AM CONFUSED TOO.
Especially if you looked over my other posts, you must be very confused 'what the hell is this person talking about?'
OK long post short as much as I can.
1. Started xanax only about 1 year before because of panic attack but i found out it helps me in many ways so i'm taking it even when I'm not attacked by panic.
2. this emanating smell thing started about 4-5 years ago and my close friend or family or doctors can't smell it, but i and strangers can smell it definitely. Sometimes people say it out 'Uh.... the smell... is that her?'
3. I thought it was gas leaking or rectal problem but sometimes it seeps out from my abdomen skin. very confusing. this part is what people think I'm crazy.
I'm not sure I described my situation well enough,
Anyway I appreciate that you want to analyze my problem.
any idea? i don't know what's going on.
I went to your profile and read through many of your posts.
Do you realize that xanax (that you apparently are on) causes olfactory hallucinations? That's one of the top side effects.
Have you only had this problem since beginning xanax?
Can you please be more concrete? You say doctors and your family think you're crazy, so obviously no one is smelling anything anything odd about you. There ARE people with objectionable smells, and no one calls them crazy for asking about it - it's patently obvious to everyone there's a problem.
What is it that you're describing, exactly? This must be something that no one else except you can observe.
I don't think I'm TMAU either,
and many people understand me thanksfully,
But i just want to know 'what hell it is'
I'd rather have cancer, death would be painful but not embarrassing like this, and people would be nicer to me when I have a cancer than this strange illness.
Even if I'm TMAU, ther's no cure I heard....what do I do...
How can this kind of material exist? subtler than air? emanating from human body?
Do I have to study quantum physics...
Anyway thx for replying, if I get some answer I'll post. :)
I would have told you that they were gonna think u were crazy. It has only been something like 10 years since they(here in the states) diagnosed people with TMAU, but it existed since shakespeare's days,...

Because smell, isn't easily noticed or confirmed as a actual problem to these people you've asked, your gonna get blank looks. They don't know what to do or how to respond, when someone asks, "hey, do I smell funny?"
I once read from a doctor who headed the research for TMAU, "not smelling bad is a social ability,..." or something to that effect.
It's o.k to be concerned about this. But be objective,...its not you, its just happening to you.
With all that said, I don't think you have TMAU, but like the chick who ended up having TMAU but no one to understand her, she got people's attention

you need a way to help people understand you, "hey I have a problem, here's the facts, now I need to know what can be done for me?"
There are people out there suffering in a similar way, I ended up here because I found a women's post on this website with the same symptoms as me,...I'm patiently awaiting her return with a reply to my post(she hasn't been on for over 3 years). Hang in there!
