Stabbing "electric shock" pain in the back of my thigh

It began yesterday - this incredibly painful throbbing feeling - like electric shock, in the middle of the back of my left thigh.  They last anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes.  It hurts to the point it I feel sick to my stomach.  It's always in the same spot - and it's very rhythmic.  I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this?  I have a very high pain threshold and this is probably an 8 on the pain scale while it's happening.

It sounds like nerve pain. Have you had any back treatment of any kind recently? And, have you talked about it to a neurologist?

I am thinking that too... I was recently diagnosed with Sciatica, but that usually is only in my hip and buttocks area.  But maybe it is that ... :(
I'd suspect a relationship. What treatment have you had for sciatica?
I was prescribed just ibuprofen but it upsets my stomach so I switched to Aleve which actually seems to work better.   My doctor said she was going to start me on Gabapentin so hopefully that will work...
