Swollen gland/ear pain

I am a 37 yr old female..I have been to the Dr. 5-6 times over past 6 months for what he said were ear infections..I would take the antibiotics then within a week or 2 after ending, my ears would hurt again,Mostly my right ear and the gland on that side of my throat would swell and hurt a bit.But I have had pain in both ears.I just finished another antibiotic and within days my gland is swollen and tender and I feel the pain in my ear..I have bypassed gen Dr. and went to a ENT.He said my ears are clear ,and throat is nice looking, but my gland is enlarged and neck is swollen..He wants me to have a CT done...I am bit nervous..Anyone have any idea what could be that antibiotics havent helped..He says has to be somthing in thraot causing it to seem like an ear infection..I have pain mostly just below the ear lobe and to the back of head in the soft spot there and my gland is bit sore, but not like usual cold type sor throat...Any ideas? Thanks

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Neck lymph nodes can be the result of tonsillitis, pharyngitis (infection of upper throat), infection in mouth, caries in tooth, internal ear infection, outer ear infection, eczema, dermatitis, dandruff, breast cancer, fungal infection, other cancers like lymphoma etc. If you had flu like symptoms initially then it could be due to infectious mononucleosis too.  A CT would give a clear picture of what the swelling is—a lymph node, a cyst or a neurofibroma or lipoma. Take care!
