TMJ or something more serious?

Hello Everyone!

I'd like to ask whether my symtoms are tmj-related or can i have an impeding stroke?
I'm 23 y.o male, BMI 30, never smoke but occasionally drink alcohol. For one week now i have this dull ache in my temple with sometimes tenderness. My doc's opinion is that my diagnosed TMJ is my culprit but i fear from something more serious, a stroke. What do you think? Should i go to MRI (what is really expensive...) or should i just forget about it, and hope it'll be alright? And lastly, can a tmj cause a stroke because narrowing the artery at my temple, or just my imagination is over-active?

Thank you for your time and asnwers

Hello there. How is your ache/tenderness? TMJ syndrome can get quite aggravating and it feeds itself. You get anxious, clench, grind and muscle tension gets worse and its a vicious circle.

May I suggest you find a good chiropractor who can adjust the joint and do some muscle work. Oftentimes if it seems to be more serious than TMJ Syndrome a good chiro will refer you to an MD or order an MRI themself. Typically, with dull (constant or intermittent) TMJ pain, its nothing serious.

Yes, i have a clicking sound when i open my mouth too wide. I'm grinding my teeth, mostly at night. I had a head CT last year because of temple tenderness but it didnt show anything except TMJ.

First, breath and relax. TMJ. will make a loud noise when u open and close your your mouth! Eventually, if it gets bad enough, it can lock shut or open. Have u had your jaw broken or grind teeth? Where u told by Dr your artery is stenosing/narrowing? Have u had braces on teeth in your life and at what age.? Don't be tense, I'll watch for your reply. I pop a 10 on my click open. Oh yea, do you have insurance?
