Hi, just wanting to find out as much info about turner syndrome, as I have just found out that my daughter has it. Any help would be great, thanks
My daughter has Turner Syndrome, and so I am a member a few support groups for Turner Syndrome. I actually just "met" a woman who just found out that she has TS and she is in her 40's. So, yes, it is quite possible to have it but not know it.
I was just wondering if you have talked to your doctor yet about your concerns?
I am a mosaic turners female and it is possible to not know. I was late in getting period and had short stature( treated with protropin) also have madelungs deformity. the person above is right. if no period ever, get checked. certain things are time sensitive. I am now 5'6 but would have been 4'11 without protropin.
This is a very interesting thought. Yes, I think it's very possible that you could have Turner's and not know; especially of you are what's known as a "mosaic" - meaning that only some of your body cells are affected by the missing X chromosome, while others have both in normal complement. Having said that, even girls with "full" Turner's have a range of degrees to which they're affected; some people's symptoms are more subtle than others.
I'm not sure what age you are, but whether or not you get periods could be a clue. Most (but not all!) girls with Turner's are infertile, and do not menstruate. However, a small percentage of those with Turner's (and a higher percentage with mosaic Turner's) are fertile and do menstruate normally. Really, the only way to know for sure is to see a geneticist for chromosomal testing, which is done through a simple blood test; perhaps your family doctor may even be able to order this!
Good luck.
