Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
You have to rule out medical cause like diabetes and thyroid problems. If your mother is in menopausal age group, then she is having hormonal imbalance. A gynecological exam is a must.
It could also be panic attacks since they come when she is worried or upset over something. She could probably take up yoga, deep breathing exercise, or walking. Music and aerobics are also good stress busters.Discuss these possibilities with her doctor.
Hope this helps. Take care!
Has her potassium level been checked? Low potassium can cause tiredness and weakness and muscle cramping. A person can even feel like they are paralyzed and can't move their arms and legs they are so weak. A person can even faint due to low blood pressure. They can be nauseated and even vomit. They can experience numbness or tingling. And you can get palpitations from low potassium.
In their testing, did anyone do orthostatic blood pressures and pulses?
How about her TSH or thyroid stimulating hormone level?
How about her iron and ferritin levels to make sure they are not low?
In spite of the low blood pressure (pheochromocytoma has episodes of high blood pressure), did anyone check her plasma free metanephrines (fasting) after one of these episodes?
You might look at our dysautonomia forum and see if anyone sounds similar to your mom.
Panic attacks can make a person shiver, cause cold clammy hands & potentially stress can give a headache. A person can feel nauseated with a panic attack as well. But usually, a person can still move with a panic attack, although they might hyperventilate to point of fainting. If all medical causes are ruled out, you might check with a doctor about a mild tranquilizer for panic attacks, to see if it's right for her. An over the counter natural tranquilizer is valerian root, generally used as a sleep aid.
Sounds like perhaps and anxiety attack or panic attack. She should mention those possibilities to her doctor to rule them out. Good luck!
